1. General information

The subject aims to introduce the student to the main classifications of territorial resources and the use of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) techniques for the inventory, assessment and hierarchization necessary to assess the tourism potential of the territory.  At the same time, the aim is for the future tourism professional to know from a geographical perspective (demography, climate, relief, coasts, vegetation, cities, infrastructure networks, etc.) the main resources and the typological diversity of the tourist destinations of the Spanish geography, how to locate them in space and correctly interpret the appearance of environmental or socioeconomic dynamics and conflicts derived from the development of tourist activity in the territory.

These approaches and goals are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030 (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/), so that the acquisition of the learning results of the subject provides training and competence to contribute in some measure to the achievement of Target 11.4 and 12.2

2. Learning results

  • To identify the factors that explain the territorial distribution of tourism resources and their impact on the configuration of the receiving areas.
  • To carry out a classification and inventory of tourism resources
  • Analyze the resources of a territory, assessing their potential as components of a tourism product

3. Syllabus

  • Unit 1. The analysis of tourism resources: Methodologies for the analysis of the tourism potential of the territory territory.
  • Unit 2. Systems of classification and geodigital inventory of tourist resources.
  • Unit 3. Geographical factors, development models and territorial impacts associated with tourism territorial resources in Spain.
    • Coastal areas and coastal and island destinations
    • Natural areas and winter seasons
    • Inland rural areas with low population density.
    • Urban spaces and city systems
  • Unit 4. GIT applied to the analysis of territorial tourism resources.

4. Academic activities

Attendance to theoretical classes: 30 hours

5. Assessment system

The final grade for the subject will be obtained from the weighted sum of the following assessment activities:

The student must obtain a minimum of 4 (out of 10) in all the theoretical or practical tests in order to obtain an average (If the student does not reach a 4 in any of the parts, he/she will never obtain more than a 4 in the finalaverage ).

Assessment criteria for continuous and global assessment: Clarity and order in writing, assimilation of concepts, handling of techniques used in class, participation and ability to issue opinions and conclusions, good presentation and layout of results.

Important: The originality of the contents is required (plagiarism or intellectual non-originality of any test of theoretical or practical evaluation will result in the failure of the subject).

1. Información básica de la asignatura

La asignatura pretende introducir al alumno en el manejo de las principales clasificaciones de los recursos territoriales y en el empleo de las técnicas SIG (Sistemas de Información Geográfica) para el inventariado, valoración y jerarquización necesarias para evaluar el potencial turístico del territorio. Paralelamente, se busca que el futuro profesional del turismo conozca desde una perspectiva geográfica (demografía, clima, relieve, costas, vegetación, ciudades, redes de infraestructuras, etc.) los principales recursos y la diversidad tipológica de los destinos turísticos de la geografía española, sepa localizarlos en el espacio e interpretar correctamente la aparición de dinámicas y conflictos ambientales o socioeconómicos derivados del desarrollo de la actividad turística en el territorio.

Estos planteamientos y objetivos están alineados con los siguientes Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) de la Agenda 2030 de Naciones Unidas (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/), de tal manera que la adquisición de los resultados de aprendizaje de la asignatura proporciona capacitación y competencia para contribuir en cierta medida al logro de la Meta 11.4 y 12.2

2. Resultados de aprendizaje

  • Identificar los factores que explican la distribución territorial de los recursos turísticos y su incidencia en la configuración de los espacios receptores
  • Realizar una clasificación e inventariado de recursos turísticos
  • Analizar los recursos de un territorio valorando su potencialidad como componentes de un producto turístico

3. Programa de la asignatura

  • Tema 1. El análisis de los recursos turísticos: Metodologías para el análisis del potencial turístico del territorio.
  • Tema 2. Sistemas de clasificación e inventariado geodigital de los recursos turísticos.
  • Tema 3. Factores geográficos, modelos de desarrollo e impactos territoriales asociados a los recursos territoriales turísticos de España:
    • Espacios costeros y destinos litorales e insulares
    • Espacios naturales y estaciones de invierno
    • Espacios rurales de interior de baja densidad demográfica.
    • Espacios urbanos y sistema de ciudades
  • Tema 4. TIG aplicadas al análisis de recursos territoriales turísticos.

4. Actividades académicas

5. Sistema de evaluación

La calificación final de la asignatura se obtendrá de la suma ponderada de las siguientes actividades de evaluación:

El estudiante deberá obtener un mínimo de 4 (sobre 10) en todas las pruebas teóricas o prácticas para poder promediar (Si el estudiante no alcanza el 4 en alguna de las partes, nunca obtendrá más de un 4 de promedio final).

Criterios de valoración para evaluación continua y global: Claridad y orden en la redacción, asimilación de conceptos, manejo de técnicas empleadas en clase, participación y capacidad para emitir opiniones y conclusiones, buena presentación y maquetación de resultados.

Importante: Se requiere la originalidad de los contenidos (el plagio o la no originalidad intelectual de cualquier prueba de evaluación teórica o práctica supondrá el suspenso de la asignatura).
